Overall performance of JSC "Gusinoozersk SDPP"

The JSC Gusinoozersk SDPP with the installed capacity of 1100 MW is part of the unified energy system of Siberia. The plant is situated in Zagustayskaya Valley, on the shore of the Gusinoye Lake, the Republic of Buryatia. During the years of its activity the plant has generated over 100 billion kW/h of electric energy. At present, the number of those working at this power station totals 1072. More than a half of the personnel have higher and secondary technical training.

The detailed project specifications for the Gusinoozersk SDPP with the capacity of 600 MW on the basis of the Gusinoozersk brown coals were designed by the Tomsk branch of the Teploelectroproject Institute and approved by the USSR Council of Ministers by its instruction as of 8 December, 1968, No.1335.

In 1965 the feasibility study on choosing the site for construction of a new SDPP in the Buryatia ASSR on the basis of the Tugnuy black coals, which recommended Gusinoozersk as a site for construction of the SDPP. During the approval procedure regarding the above-mentioned feasibility study, the USSR State Planning Committee took the decision to revise the project design for the construction of the Gusinoozersk SDPP proceeding from the following:

The designed capacity of the SDPP should be 1200 MW on the basis of installing 6 power generating units of 200 MW each;
the coals of the Gusinoozersk Deposit (Kholboldzhinsky field) should be applied as a fuel for the SDPP.

The first power generating unit of the Gusinoozersk SDPP first stage was started up on 22 December, 1976.

The following three power generating units of the first stage were put into operation in December 1977, 1978 and 1979. Commissioning of the second stage began in 1988, when the main power generating unit (No.5) was started up. Power generating unit No.6 was started up in 1992.

Since 1981 was challenged with the issue of quality of the Kholboldzhinsky coal strip mine due to the fact that the ash content of the fuel had significantly increased. Finally, in this context, a decision was taken to redesign the steam generation units of the plant first stage in order to change them over to dry ash removal. In 1993–1996, a conversion of power generation unit No.2 was carried out. In 1998 a reconstruction of power generating unit No.4 was started.
