Overall performance of JSC "Kharanor SDPP"
The JSC Kharanor SDPP is situated 300 km south-westward off the city of Chita, in the settlement of Yasnogorsk. The following factors conditioned the choice of the construction site location: availability of the existing trunk railroad, proximity of the Kharanor coals deposits and water-supply source, which is the Onon River.

The basic design for construction of the Kharanor SDPP was approved of by the USSR Ministry of Energy and Electrification as of 8 October, 1977, and the entire detailed, estimate and engineering documentation was designed by the Teploenergoproject Tomsk Institute.
The prime construction and installation work was performed in 1990-1995. The State Acceptance Commission signed the report of commissioning power generating unit No.1 on the 11th of October 1995. Power generating unit No.2 was put into operation on 10 October 2001. At present, the plant installed capacity is 430 MW, and its working capacity is 321.8 MW.
The open joint-stock company JSC Kharanor SDPP was established by the decision of the JSC RAO UES of Russia (Instruction No.98р as of 27 December 2002).
As the result of structural adjustments, non-core businesses were detached from the rest of the plant activities (JSC Kharanorenergoremont), public catering and sales outlets as well as other assets not involved in the basic business were sold out.
On 29 September, 2003, the Board of Directors of the JSC RAO UES of Russia approved of the basic version of the Gen Co. setting-up. The JSC Kharanor SDPP is part of the WGC-3.
