Yuzhnouralsk SDPP

Overall performance of JSC "Yuzhnouralsk SDPP"

The JSC Yuzhnouralsk SDPP, one of the first in the Soviet Union heat power plants with the capacity of 1000 MW, is situated 90 kilometers off the city of Chelyabinsk. The site for construction of the Yuzhnouralsk SDPP was chosen at the left bank of the Uvelka River. All the facilities of the power plant are positioned on four terraces, and the difference between the elevations of the upper and lower terraces is 25.5 m.

The electric power plant supplies electric power to the Southern Ural cities, it also supplies heat energy to industrial facilities and residential consumers in the city of Yuzhnouralsk.

The Yuzhnouralsk SDPP was one of the first electric power plants of Ural and Siberia, where the equipment of domestic make, intended for high steam parameters, was installed. The main units with the capacity of 200 MW were installed and put into operation. Extensive scientific engineering and research efforts were expended to master it.

Plant installed capacity:

  • electrical 882 MW;
  • thermal 395 Gcal/h.

Historical reference:

The Enactment of the USSR Council of Ministers No.248 as of 02 June, 1948, the Ministry of Electric Power Stations was assigned with construction of the Yuzhnouralsk SDPP.

The design documentation for the power plant construction was developed by the team of the Moscow Branch of the Teploelectroproject Institute (the Project Chief Engineer S.S. Rakita) and its subcontractors: the Leningrad Branch of the Teploelectroproject Institute (designing of process water supply, water-based gas purification); Saratov Giproniigaz Institute (designing of provision of gas supply to the power plant).

The General Contractor of the construction was the Yuzhuralgresstroy Building Office being an affiliate of the Yuzhuralenergostroy under the USSR Ministry of Energy and Electrification. More than fifteen teams from different industries of the national economy took part in construction of the electric power plant. The best professionals from a lot of regions of the country came to participate in construction of the Yuzhnouralsk SDPP.

The first boiler was launched 23 April, 1952. The first turbine impulse was made on 27 April, and connection of the generator to the mains took place on the 28 of April at 0 hours 23 minutes.

The Yuzhnouralsk SDPP became a specific school for training personnel for many newly built power companies of the country – thanks to the accumulated experience and high level of excellence of its staff. Also representatives of the Yuzhnouralsk SDPP worked abroad assisting in mastering new equipment for electric power plants and simultaneously improving their own skills.
